‘Thought i jumped a speedbreaker’ Driver who killed a 3-year-old Vidhit arrested

At the beginning of last week of February, a 2-year-old child Vidhit Srivastav lost his life in an accident outside Saraswati Model School, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. Two days after the death of the child, the police has arrested the driver of Ford Endeavour. The accused is identified as Vishal Kumar of Prem Nagar who fled the location to avoid his arrest.

In his statement, the accused said that he thought he crossed a speed breaker, he didn’t know that he jumped over a child. During the questioning, the driver confessed that Vidhit’s height was lower than his car’s bonnet, which is why he didn’t see him. He found out about the incident when his videos went viral on social media.

Inspector Jarnail Singh, Division No. 8 had arrested the accused from Kailash Chowk when he was trying to escape and flee from the city. It is suspected that the driver was under the influence of drugs or liquor which will be ascertained after the dope test. The police have arrested and taken the accused & vehicle in custody to check for modifications. The SHO has assured the family that they will take strict action against the driver and school for their loss.
