Thappad: A Powerful Movie spreading ‘Zordaar’ social message

Taapsee Pannu, Kumud Mishra, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi starring ‘Thappad’ has released today. The movie is based on the issue of physical abuse and how to deal with such problems. ‘Bas Itni Si Baat?’ the tagline of Thappad delivers a strong message in such a subtle manner makes the movie power-packed.

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the movie revolves around a housewife Amrita who unconditionally loves her husband. She is seen taking care of her house, walking shoulder to shoulder with her husband like a perfect wife. But, one fine day, her husband slaps her changing her life altogether.

Thappad is a simple story of an upper-middle-class couple based in Delhi. The wife has only one question: “if it is okay for her husband to slap her, even if it is a one-off case?” The core of the story focusses on a human being’s ego, gender irrelevant here. Anubhav Sinha lends a certain subtlety to the film that a film like this needed. And given how lost subtlety is in Hindi cinema (Bollywood, essentially), Thappad hits you like that very slap that snapped Taapsee’s Amrita back into consciousness.
