Personal Data Protection Bill 2019 passed by Union Cabinet

To stop the illegal sharing of personal information on all kinds of social handles, the Cabinet has passed Personal Data Protection Bill 2019 today. Now, if any company, website or app found stealing personal information will be fined heavily under the law.

Cabinet Minister Prakash Javedkar informed the news sharing that a framework for processing of personal and private data by public and private entities is expected to be introduced in the Parliament for consideration and passing in the Winter Session.

The draft bill was prepared by a panel under the guidance of former Supreme Court judge BN Srikrishna. In the bill, rules on collection, processing, and storage of personal data, individuals’ consent, penalties and compensation, code of conduct and an enforcement model were proposed. The union cabinet has passed the bill and soon it will be made official after complete discussion in the parliament.
