Overhead water tank at Cheema Chowk is in a delicate state

The condition of Ludhiana’s infrastructure is not something any citizen is proud of. Bad roads, faulty powerlines, garbage dumps at every corner, construction sites everywhere and poorly maintained structures.

In a recent incident, some stones dropped off from the structure of the overhead water tank situated near the Cheema Chowk. This happened when the city witnessed a thunderstorm recently. This is not the first time such an incident has happened. Whether it is a thunderstorm or even slight strong winds – it is easy to witness such an incident. It’s not just this water tank but other water tanks in the city are also in an extremely miserable condition. The situation is so bad that it has become a threat to people’s lives.

Ludhiana’s Municipal Corporation has been informed numerous times by the citizens. But true to its name, the corporation did nothing but just gave false promises. No one came to solve the issue. Just like any other problem in the city, this time as well Municipal Corporation was waiting for a mishap to happen.

RTI activist Arvind Sharma even wrote a letter to Punjab State Human Rights Commission, Chandigarh. The letter was written on May 3, 2019. It was only then that Arvind received a letter from Municipal Corporation that they had received a complaint regarding the issue.

The matter hasn’t been solved yet.
