Ludhiana cops serve 55L meals to the needy



Amid the Covid-19 crisis, the district police have served 55 lakh meals to the needy till date, revealed the statistics released by the city police. As Ludhiana is an industrial hub, where lots of migrant labourers from different parts of the country come for work, it is a challenging job to serve food to them. However, the police accepted the challenge and served cooked food to nearly 55,72,210 persons and also provided 39,837 kits to the needy during the lockdown, said Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal.

The top cop claimed that on duty cops were being served cooked food twice a day along with regular supply of potable water. To boost their immunity vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc tablets, giloy ghanvati tablets and homeopathic medicines were being given to them along with masks, gloves, sanitisers, face shield, goggles and PPE kits, he added.

A total of 12 quarantine centers having a capacity of 478 beds at different locations in the Ludhiana Commissionerate have been established, exclusively for the police personnel.

Agrawal said the police registered a total of 412 FIRs of which 94 were booked for opening shops, 55 for gathering, 32 for venturing out without masks, 231 for curfew-related violations and arrested 719 violators. He added that 14,788 persons have been sent to open jail.

A total of 6,854 traffic challans were issued in the city against those who were found violating the norms without any reason, out of these 1253 vehicles were also impounded till date. As a goodwill gesture, police personnel of PAU, Division No 1, Division No 5, Dehlon and Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana, made surprise visits to the houses of different persons and celebrated birthday/anniversary and also presented cake and chocolates to them, informed the CP.
