The Botany department of Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana organized a guest lecture on “Physiology of Flowering concepts and Biological Clocks”. Former Principal of GCG, Ludhiana Prof. (Dr.) Mohinder Kaur Grewal appeared as a guest. Dr Grewal, an eminent botanist addressed the students of M.Sc. (Botany) and elaborated the various aspects of plant life. The lecture began with a simple and self-explanatory definition of ‘Plant’. Dr Grewal gave some common examples to illustrate the physiology of flowering and simplified it in a way that students could understand. She also provided an insight into her own work-life as student and botanist and gave tips on how to become one. She discussed the aspects of flowering in plants including photoperiodism, vernalization, photoinductive cycle, florigen concept, phytochrome and biological clock. She encouraged the students to do research in the field of plants physiology as nowadays more research is being conducted in the field of applied science.

The interaction among the guest and students was very fruitful as students took great interest in this session. In the end, Dr Manju Sahni, Principal, Mrs Varinderjit Kaur, Vice Principal and Dr Anita Joshi, Head, dept. of Botany felicitated the guest by presenting her a memento of appreciation.
