Geotagging initiated by Civic Body for Saplings survival

To keep a check on the plantation drive, the civic body of Ludhiana has initiated geotagging
monitoring to improve greenery level in the city. In this method, a specific geo-tag has been
allotted to every plant which will check the growth of plants and also define the actual success
rate of the plantation drive.

Civic officials claimed that every season approximately 70% trees survive but there is no proper
record maintained. Now, with the help of this app, all the officials can upload the longitude and
latitude of the plants where all the data of MC properties will be added. MC Commissioner KP
Brar said: “Yes, we have started tagging saplings just to know whether plants are being taken
care of properly. Though initially, we will not be able to see their growth, once their size
increases, plants will be visible on Google Earth.”

The target given to the civic body is plantation of 26,000 saplings in various locations in this
financial year. The locations where plantations will be done included Jalandhar Bypass, Focal
Point, Cheema Chowk, Basant Park, Gurdev Nagar, BRS Nagar, Atam Park, BRS Nagar, Guru
Nanakpura, New Model Town, Dugri, Focal Point, and Barewal.
