For the first time in Punjab, Jan Shatabdi Express running between Amritsar and Haridwar will run through solar energy. As per the information, the railways have made 9 Non-AC coaches equipped with solar panels that will save the electricity and expenditure in the long run.

“Currently, 2 coaches have been made using solar panels from the Railway of Jan Shatabdi while 7 coaches are yet to be fully equipped. However, the Railways plans to have the roofs of all these 9 coaches of the Jan Shatabdi fully equipped with solar panels. When these coaches are fully solarized, this train will become a solar train, which not only the Ferozepur Division but also the Indian Railways will be proud of.” told one of the officials.

DRM of Ferozepur division Rajesh Aggarwal said: “The Ferozepur division is working on solar energy aiming to run other trains entirely through solar panels which will include both the passenger trains and mail express. After testing the Janshatabdi, other trains will also be converted.”
