Study: COVID-19 is likely to infect 87 per cent of Punjab population

Today, in the afternoon Punjab Cabinet Ministry decided to increase the curfew by 21 days i.e May 1st, 2020. The decision came after Chief Minister Amarinder Singh held a cabinet meeting through video conference.

He said: ” We have 132 confirmed cases and 11 deaths and cases are rising. The captain also mentioned the study done at PGI Chandigarh which stated that the COVID-19 pandemic will be at peak in India by mid-September and it will be at a point where 58 percent of the population of the country can be infected. The same study estimates that COVID-19 is likely to infect 87 percent of Punjab population and other populations.”

Capt informed that Punjab will ramp up the testing as they have ordered 25000 kits which will be arriving on Monday. Extending the curfew in Punjab, the CM took another positive step to protect the state of COVID-19.
