Ludhiana – The notorious travel agent, Nitish Ghai, who has been facing over 100 FIRs of travel and immigration-related fraud is again in the news as two of his firms have been mentioned in the list of illegal travel agents operating in the country, released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
In the MEA list Punjab has 76 travel agents of which 18 are from Ludhiana. Two of the firms belonged to Ghai against which the Ludhiana Commissionerate registered FIRs last year. The ADCP (Special Staff), Surendra Lamba, confirmed to the Tribune that two firms – Blessing Consultancy, Samrala Chowk and Gulf Group, Ludhiana – figured in the list of illegal travel agents operating in India.
Asked if the city police had given any input to the Union Government about illegal travel agents to be added in the list, Lamba said no such list was sent by the police. It seemed that the MEA prepared the list from its own information.
ADCP Lamba said though there were 18 agents of Ludhiana in the MEA list, not all were facing FIRs. “We are doing verification of the listed agents, who are not facing any FIR, but still are in the list. We have not given any inputs to the Centre government for this,” said Lamba.
